Call disposition,
defined.

The one-word tag a rep assigns after every call — and the single most consequential piece of data in an outbound system, because everything downstream trusts it blindly.

Call disposition is the outcome assigned to a call right after it ends — connected, voicemail, no answer, callback, not interested, and so on. It's what tells the rest of the system what happens to that contact next: requeue it, schedule a follow-up, or remove it from the list entirely.

Common disposition types

DispositionWhat it meansWhat happens next
ConnectedReached a live person and had a conversationLogged with notes; may open a deal
VoicemailReached voicemail, left a message or notRequeued for a later attempt
No answerRang out with no pickupRequeued, often at a different time of day
CallbackContact asked to be called back at a specific timeScheduled — pulled back into the queue at that time
Not interestedContact declinedRemoved from the active queue
Wrong numberNumber doesn't reach the intended contactFlagged for list cleanup

Why disposition accuracy is the whole game

Every automated decision an outbound system makes — requeue this, schedule that, remove this one — reads the disposition a rep just assigned. If a rep mis-tags calls to move through the list faster (marking a No Answer as Not Interested to skip the requeue, for example), the queue starts making decisions on bad data, and no analytics dashboard downstream can catch it. This is why Sales Montana pairs disposition logging with actual call review: Montana listens to the recording, not just the tag, and flags the mismatch — a call marked Connected that was actually 8 seconds of dead air gets caught the same night, not discovered a month later in a QA audit.

Frequently asked

What is a call disposition?

A call disposition is the outcome a rep (or an automated system) assigns to a call right after it ends — connected, voicemail, no answer, callback, not interested, and so on. It's the single piece of data that tells the rest of the system what to do next with that contact.

What are the most common call dispositions?

Most outbound teams track some version of: Connected, Voicemail, No Answer, Callback, Not Interested, and Wrong Number. Some add finer detail like Gatekeeper or Meeting Booked.

Why does call disposition accuracy matter?

Disposition data drives what happens next — a No Answer gets requeued, a Callback gets scheduled, a Not Interested gets removed. If reps mis-tag calls to move faster, the queue starts making decisions on bad data, and no analytics dashboard downstream can fix that.
